starting birth control after baby?

Hey ladies -

I just went back for my 6 week check up and got a prescription for birth control - but forgot to ask the DR. if I could start taking them today even if I have not had my "period" yet (I am still having some postpartum bleeding -TMI)

Does anyone know if I can start them today - do I have to wait until Sunday, or do I have to wait until I know that I have started my period?

That first answer was SO helpful!!

I'd give your Dr a call. If you are breastfeeding you shouldn't take the contraceptive pill as it can dry up your milk. Also if you are breastfeeding you won't get a period for quite a while. Ididn't get mine until bub was 5mths old and I had dropped half the breastfeeds.

my doctor told me to start mine on sunday...i was also kinda bleeding a little to, it all depends on what type of birth control you are taking though...do you no what kind? i would just call the doctors in the morning and ask them to be sure.
