Which is better at checking IDs and finding fakes: liquor stores or liquor selling grocery stores? Sources?

I'm going to be doing a school debate concerning the selling of liquor in Colorado grocery stores. I'm on the side that is for the selling of liquor and was wondering if grocery stores were better at checking IDs and finding fakes than liquor stores. If they are, I'll use that in my debate. If you have an answer, can you also tell me where you heard the information? Thank you.

I work at a liquor store in New York State, although here we have laws where you cannot sell beer or coolers or anything like that those are all sold at grocery stores. And vise versa, grocery stores cannot sell wine and liquor only beer and coolers.

But no matter the state I would really think that the whole thing is dependent on the employee that is selling to them.

We are asked to check ID's of anyone that looks under 30, but it's totally up to our discretion. Most grocery stores around here actually ID everyone....20, 80 it doesn't matter. You need an ID.

But like I said no store can make you ask, but either way most people ask because it's their job on the line, not to mension their criminal record. I'd rather deny your sale than risk getting arrested and getting my store fined.

Just asking at who's better at finding fakes? I would go with liquor stores, just because they would get more traffic around here its sooo much easier to get beer then liquor because of the laws in this area.

honestly i can't believe there would be much difference between grocery stores and liquor stores. It completely depends on the person. Some grocery stores though have a policy that if you are talking to someone else both parties need to show id's so that might be more of a deterrent (target, cvs etc). I have also been to liquor stores though that card at the entrance so it really is a big grab bag. The more reputable the store is (bigger name) the harder it will be to get in/by generally. Clubs on the other hand are a whole different story...

Definitely harder to pass off a fake in a real liquor only store. Because the clerks are used to looking at ID's daily, they know what to look for, its a bigger part of their job. At a grocery store, theres more young cashiers and it isn't too often they are checking ID's....much easier to pass off a fake at a busy grocery store than a liquor only store.

I was a bartender for years and it would be harder to pass off a fake ID in a Liquor store then any grocery store.

When working in a liquor store as a cashier / stock person, I'd check every ID of ANYONE looking under 40. Reason being there are people like myself who look younger than they are, and worst case scenario, you made someone happy. It's not worth it for stores to risk losing their license to sell a 6pk of Budpisswasser or a 200ml bottle of Smirnoff to one underage moron.
