Is masterbating a sin?
Now I do not believe this myself but I promise it is the truth.
Knock at the door... I answered it and standing there is a religious person. He asked what I was doing today and me being a smart ass answered that I was masterbating, was what he wanted important?. He said what I was doing was a sin and proceeded to quote a few passages in the bible. etc.
Is this true? I am dumb founded as I had never herd of this before and my curiosity got the better of me.
I was not actually doing it at the time. I was just being a smart ass! I cant help myself.
Email just sent to nomad
First of all I am not a "kid" I am 26 yrs old. I was being a smart ass when answering the question to the religious man! There was no threat of sexual abuse because I have known him for many years and know what a sweet heart he is. And he was 72 yrs old! Your answer to this question was rude and abusive in several ways. This was a genuine question and I think you need to realise that your opinion is not the only one that matters. There are many versions of the bible for a reason! That reason being that people believe and think differently.
I thought someone claiming to be a Chrisitian was supposed to educate others not belittle and abuse to get a belief across. You need help mate. Calm down. This site is designed to educate.

A commonly referenced proverb to highlight the evils of masturbation frequently mistaken as a biblical admonition is typically phrased as, "It is better to cast your seed in the belly of a whore than to spill it on the ground." The fact is, though, this is not anything to be found in the pages of Scripture. We get this question fairly often and have been trying to track down the origin of the saying, but alas, with no luck. While not certain of the phrase's exact origin, it does seem to be a false extrapolation of Genesis 38 and the story of Onan, Tamar, and Judah.
So no, it is NOT a sin.

Yes, it's a sin. It is the misuse of the gift of sexuality that God gave us. Watching porn is also sinful, in that it uses other human beings in a way in which they are objectified and devalued. We are all called to be chaste and have pure hearts. Waiting until marriage for sex is necessary, and this includes waiting in your heart and in your mind.

It's really only a sin if you don't switch hands regularly. Having one Popeye arm and one limp noodle will throw you off balance and you'll fall off of that razor thin line that people call the Road to Heaven. ;)

What I read once that resonates with me is that no, the Bible never explicitly states that masturbation is sinful, but it is very clear that lust is wrong. Therefore, if you truly can masturbate without any kind of lust, then it's just a physical sensation like wiggling your toes or scratching your head - but be honest with yourself, is that really possible?

Answer unclear, ask again later.
Not if it's spelled that way.
It's a sin for you if you choose to believe masturbation is a sin. It's not for me, no matter what anyone else thinks or chooses to believe.

What religion?
Most likely, yes, it is a sin. Having sexual thoughts is generally a sin unless you're married, 40-years-old, having sex in the missionary position, and having said sex for the purpose of having a child.
Other than that, you're sinning and you're going to hell for it.
Or you can repent.
But then what's the point of observing the laws of religion in the first place?

Its a huge controversy among alot of religions.
Some say it is some say it isn't.
Kinda sucks either way.
As far as it goes for me I kinda don't think so.
But I don't make the rules or enforce them.

Why would you tell some guy at your door that you're "masturbating"?
I'm an atheist, but I think that's 1) very weird 2) a good way to get sexually assaulted by this "religious" guy.

I'm going to have to try that next time it happens to me.
Forgot to say, no it's not. But then again I am an atheist.

I think it is a healthy release and keeps you out of unhealthy relationships. Why would you tell your friend that? It's kinda trashy.
