Boat won't start, no sounds. Battery checked & charged, connections tight. Worked 1 mo ago. ?
1976 AMF slickcraft with OMC I/O motor. Ran OK one month ago. Now I can run blower, but when I turn key it does nothing, no sounds; can't run blower or running lights after turning key to start motor. Battery is fully charged and was checked at auto part store. Terminals are tight. What should I check/replace?

"can't run blower or running lights after turning key to start motor..."
Blower and lights work before you turn the key, right?
Seen that before. Could be corrosion/dirt build-up on a connection somewhere -- even though the terminals are tight, they need to be polished till they shine. Use sandpaper if you have to.
Don't forget the battery (-) connection to engine block ground.
Inspect the battery cables closely; insulation gets nicked or chafed, corrosion can happen inside where you can't see it.
If all that checks out ok, measure voltage at the starter solenoid small input terminal (where 12V from the keyswitch is connected), with the key turned to "start".
No or low voltage there, troubleshoot the keyswitch, neutral safety switch, wiring harness.

If there is a loose connection, starting it will cause a spark which will eat away some of the metal, completely loosening the connection. Usually, it would make a pop sound, though. Try checking the ignition or the solenoid. That's more likely the problem.

Check the ignition switch first.Use a test light.Three positions on the switch.Off,on,start.
Sounds like you have power to the switch in the on but is the switch powering up the starter side of the switch ?
If yes ,go next to the soleniods, and check for power with the switch in the start position
Hope this helps.

Hi, 1st, check fuses. It is more than likely a faulty switch, remove it, and see of you can hotwire it, use a power tester on the terminal, no lights means you have isolated the problem. Make sure the gears are in neutral, sometimes they look like it, push the stick back and fwd and leave in neutral, all a process of elimination.
Good luck

auto parts stores can be wrong sometimes. i had a problem with my boat where it did the same thing. part store said battery was ok but when i hooked up a charger with the battery i got a connection. besides that there has to be a simple problem to even getting a noise out of your engine. be sure to check all of your grounds. the smallest short somewhere can ruin your day of fishing. you will find the problem i am sure. keep tracing your steps.

Same thing happened to me. It was the engine kill switch. Make sure the lanyard is in the proper position.

the fact that theres no sounds when you turn the key makes me wonder if theres something wrong with the ignition, have you had that checked?

The switch is toast that is why the circuit is dead. replace the switch and she should crank right up.

THIS SOUNDS STUPID, BUT IT HAPPENED TO ME.
CHECH YOUR KILL SWITCH, MINE DRY ROTTED AND BROKE FREE.
NOT SOMETHING I LOOKED FOR.... OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN.
Luckily, cel ph worked and my mechanic thought of it while I was stranded off shore.
