1999 Ford Windstar won't start, odd problem, please help.?

I have a 99 Ford Windstar LX 3.8L v6. When I try to start it, it does start, then shuts off right away. I've started it with the gas pedal depressed about 1/3. It revs, then as soon as I let go, it quits. The fuel filter and the throttle positioning sensor have been changed. It only acts this way on a cold start. In the past if it has done it, it only took a couple trys for it to work, now it doesn't work period. Please help! p.s. Please spare me the anti-Ford comments. This is the vehicle I have to get me and my wife to work so we can support our family. Getting another car that isn't a ford is not an option. So spare me the overused Ford jokes.

Does the check engine light come on, or does it stay on ?

If so, try to get the car to any parts store that checks the system computer free, such as Auto Zone, and maybe they can pin point the problem without changing a bunch of expensive parts.

You should not even try to start it with the gas pedal, as this will tend to give the wrong information to the central computer system.

You just might have a bad ignition module, as this is common reaction.

I have a 96 Windstar that only failed once, very similar, and it was the module.

Try a MAF sensor if that dont work you need to get a scanner and check the engine coolant temp sensor. You need to see what the engines computer sees from the sensor. If on a cold start it doesnt represent the engines temp, usually ambient temp, change it.

there,s nothing wrong with fords. i,ve had some good fords. what about the fuel pump? maybe your not getting enough pressure to keep it going.

Sounds like idle air control issues.

Either a bad fuel pump or your fuse blew which controls your fuel pump. Look in the manual for the location of the fuel pump fuse

try buying a coil pack i had a thunderbird that had the same deal.for the part i recommend a used one from a junk yard not my first pick but it is an expensive part that you cant return if its not the prob.

sir it sounds like a failed fuel pump, check your fuel pressure, buy a chilton manual, good luck
