Need help with homeschooling.?

I want to start homeschooling my son immediately. He is in 1st grade and has ADHD. He refuses to do classwork, misbehaves and bothers other kids during class. I know he can do the work but the problem is he needs one on one instruction. When you work with him he does great. Obviously he can not get this in school because the teacher has to tend to all the students in the class.

My question is what do I do to start homeschooling him? I have read the laws for my state but I am at a stand still. what do I have to do to actually start? Who do I contact and how long does the process take before I can begin? I know there are different programs available but which one is the best? I am just so confused about the whole thing. Someone please help!!

(I am located in NC.)

If you choose a free online option, I would look at Kaplan, K12 and Connections Academy.http://takecontrolofyoureducation.blogspot.com/

If you are going to build your own program, take a look at Sonlight and request their free catalog. They have excellent resources and amazing online forums. http://www.sonlight.com/

    Best of Luck!

You need to send a Notice of Intent to NCNPE. You can print out the form online from ncnpe.org. In NC you have to have a school name and there are some words you can't use. The words are listed on ncnpe.org. It takes up to 30 days to be returned to you. After the Notice of Intent is returned to you, you need to go to his current public school and withdraw him. Then you just buy your curriculum and start homeschooling. Good luck and hope this helped.

Homeschooling is not an easy thing, but I LOVE IT! I have been hs for 6 years now and as hard as it is, I would never give it up, (unless a higher power advised me to). My cousin who has 3 chidren in school grades 1 (2 girls) and a 5th grader. She went to the school and pulled them out and that was that. we ordered the books and were on our way. her children have adjusted very well, and LOVE it!! Our biggest thing for her 1st graders are for them to find themselves and to build a relationship with their mother. ( their parent are sepperated in preparation for a divorce, so they are going through alot). We have them in abeka, which is very good, but is about 1 1/2 years ahead of Public schools so keep that in mind. My cousin had to put them in K and K5 books. good luck!! It is the best journey ever!! just remember this...Is my relationship with my child worth this fight?? their are many ways of teaching a concept and don't get angry when she doesn't understand. move on and catch it later if needed. Well I am very glad that you have decided to homeschool your child in sake of a better education. But I am no expert but on this site they have tutors who teach you how to homeschool.

    Good Luck
