Is it me or is this just wrong?

My friend had CPS (child protective services) called on her for letting her baby (18 months) play in the kiddy pool in her back yard naked?

Am I the only one that thinks if you see something wrong with a naked baby you are sick and not me? The charges were dismissed because she didn't do anything wrong, but do you see something wrong with letting our babies play outside in their birthday suits?

Update:

we were both with the child (my kids were napping) and it was around 80 degrees. The reporter was not mentioning temperature or being alone, The complaint was of a naked child running around in the back yard where everyone could see.

If someone is watching your friend's baby that closely, I'd start putting up privacy hedges. Yipes! Yes, it's something wrong with them, not with your friend or you. The baby was being supervised and having a great time with the diaper off, great for the skin and my mom let all of us go nudie in the summer when we were little for that very reason.

But if someone is watching the naked baby that closely... I dunno. That's creepy.

I can understand complaining if it was a public pool but if it was just her own private yard then I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Some people are just overly cautious about child abuse and report any little thing they see. I don't think this person was being sick, they were probably just trying to watch out for the baby (better safe than sorry). CPS obviously realized this was no big deal or they wouldn't have dismissed it.

It's over now so there's not much use in staying mad about it but your friend might want to talk to whoever reported her and let them know that she appreciates their concern but if they have a problem in the future to please talk to her first before they just go and call CPS.

I personally see nothing wrong with an 18mo playing naked in a kiddie pool, supervised. And the person was wrong to call CPS for something so stupid. But you have to realize that there are some really really sick people out there that would look at the baby and get sexually aroused. It makes me sick to think about. I used to let my daughter play i the kiddie pool naked until a coworker of mine commented on the large number of registered sex offenders living in the area. I looked on the Megan's law web site and was astounded at the number. The town I live in is only about 1,400 people but there were 4 that lived on my block alone! After that I started putting my daughter in panties when she was in her pool.

  • Uh oh!! I let my 16 month old son run around in the kiddie pool naked in my back yard all the time. Its like 100* today outside. Is the pool like in a common area in a apartment building?? People need to get a life. My parents had CPS called on them because I once said in elementary school "My mom is going to kill me for ruining my shirt". People need to get a life. No worries!! I would let your kids keep playing in the back yard naked!!

I work with CPS in my state and that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Unless there was some danger in the temperature or the child being unsupervised there isn't even a valid reason for that. Some people have nothing better to do then try and cause trouble for other people.

Of course not!! Now if the baby was being molested, then thats one thing. But I don't know of ONE baby that hasn't run around butt naked in a kiddy pool or the house just cuz its hot. Plus, babies are adorable naked, lol. She'll know when its not appropriate anymore. Shame on who did that to your friend!

I'd tend to agree. But lets look at some factors...

-Was the child alone? Were parents watching or an adult figure for safety?

-Was it cold outside? That the child might get ill from being wet.

But yah sounds like some messed up thinking on who-ever called..

I don't see anything wrong with it, my kids did it too.

It's the world we live in. My sister has a 3 month old baby and took some pictures of her in the bathtub, when she took them to our local photo place for developing they actually refused because they called it child porn! (they were not porn! they were cute pictures of her with wet hair and her cute little ducky and a big smile) They said they now have a policy, and won't develop any naked child pictures.

I'm getting her a digital camera for her birthday next week - no photo developing required!

I am appalled that CPS wasted valuable resources on this case, when there are thousands of children being abused at this moment who will never get a visit from CPS.
