How old does the baby have to be to take a DNA test?

I am about 9 weeks pregnant right now and I want to take a paternity test with my sperm donor. Do I have to wait until the baby is born, or can I take one now?

It is better to wait until the birth but I know that sometimes it can be done while pregnant.

"The timing of DNA testing during pregnancy is crucial. There are essentially two specific windows of time in which DNA testing can be done. The first window is between the 10th and 13th week of pregnancy. During this time, a CVS can be done. With CVS, your health care provider will insert a thin tube or needle into the vagina, through the cervix, to try to obtain little finger-like pieces of tissue attached to the uterine wall, known as chorionic villi. Your health care provider will use an ultrasound to help guide the tube or needle. Chorionic villi comes from the same fertilized egg that your fetus comes from, and consequently has the same DNA makeup as your baby. "

You can take it while pregnant but I wouldn't take the risk. Just wait until the baby is born, you can't wash away DNA.

  • If you do it while you are pregnant (it is called amniocentesis) it raises your chances of having a miscarriage. The day the baby is born should be fine. They won't make him pay child support while you are pregnant anyway

i heard it was dangerous for the baby to get one while pregnant, but its possible.

or im sure as soon as the little one is born, u would be able to get a blood test.
