Why do so many askers fail to choose a best answer for their question?

I've been answering questions on Yahoo! Answers for nearly a month now, and the vast majority of my answers which were selected as the best answer were chosen by voters rather than the asker. Why? The asker could get 3 points for just choosing a best answer, and yet it seems that very few of them do this. Is it ignorance? Laziness? Or is it something else entirely?

Update:

Upon receiving so many answers to my question so quickly, it occurred to me that a possible reason could be that the asker doesn't know which answer is the best. I doubt that this excuse would apply to my question, but if the asker isn't familiar with the subject material of the question, it might explain a reluctance to choose a best answer. However, I know that this can't be an excuse for all askers, given the sheer volume of questions put up to a vote.

Its all the above. Sometimes tho someone asks and then does not get back online cause life gets busy Thats happened to me 2. But I always try to go on later and pick my best cause I would want the same from everyone else.

Sometimes you dont get good answers tho. I have asked a question with full detail Like about a cookie recipe with out egg and if I could use baking powder instead of soda and 5 people gave me an egg one. and only 2 people answered the other part.LOL

Some people just forget... They get the answer they are looking for usually within the first 10 minutes when you can't even vote a best answer, and then they move on to doing something else. Yahoo answers isn't always the first thing on most people's minds so I wouldn't go as far to call it ignorant or lazy...

The reason I don't always choose a best answer for my questions is because I can't figure out when and how I am supposed to. So ignorance is my excuse. Laziness and apathy probably also play a big role.

A suited answer should be chosen! it relatively is in basic terms 10 factors putting obtainable in limbo. i don't see something incorrect with balloting on your man or woman solutions, if the asker did not concern to close his question.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • There are some reasons that they can't decide which one is the best answer or they forget or they think that non of the answers helped them so, they think that there is no best answer .

Often it is a time factor, people just forget.

They now get their 3 points when the question is resolved. I feel they should be penalized those 3 points for not picking a BA.

It's prollly cause they didn't get much information from any of the answers, or received the answer too soon to choose, and forgot about it.

The only time I don't choose best answer is if no one answered it to my satisfaction. So probably just laziness.

Because some people have crab mentaliy. They do not want others to get 10 points. They only want their questions to be answered and receive stars.

Maybe they are just looking for an answer and forget to choose one... it is kind of annoying though...

So are YOU going to chose a Best Answer?
