I intended to major in Mathematics before I took Introduction to Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, at which point I switched my major to Computer Science. I also excel in Symbolic Logic.

  • What can I do about my fiancé's jealousy?

My fiancé doesn't like me having friends that I'm attracted to, but I'm homosocial as well as same-sex attracted, so my group of friends and the group of men I find attractive are bound to overlap a bit. I won't let him control whom I choose as friends. Now that one of these men who falls into both categories (friends and those admired) has been hired by his employer, my fiancé is threatening to quit his job, which is the only job we have. This issue and his mood swings are the only things coming between us, so I don't want to lose him over this, but I can't live with this crap. I've tried talking to him about it and assuring him that I wouldn't leave him for any of these men, especially since all of them are heterosexual, but his jealousy continues. What else can I do?

  • Why was the "2nd week" column of my California Unemployment Insurance continued claim form X-ed out?

I'm currently drawing emergency unemployment compensation from the state of California.

When I got my unemployment insurance continued claim form in the mail yesterday, the "2nd week" (March 22-28) column was covered in printed Xs and the instructions said that I was to mail it back on the 22nd (even tho' I didn't receive it until the 24th!).

It hasn't been 13 weeks since I started receiving extended benefits. I haven't exhausted my maximum extended benefits amount. I am unable to file a valid new regular claim in any state. And, federally extended benefits don't expire for months yet. What other reason could there be?

  • What do I have left to give up for lent?

I'm trying to figure out something to give up for Lent that would be a challenge, but also something from which I'm certain I can abstain. The problem is that health and financial concerns have already taken most of my vices from me.

I don't eat any sweets nor do I drink soda because I may be prediabetic. I don't eat meats, dairy products, or eggs nor do I drink milk because I've been vegan for nine years. I broke my caffeine addiction nearly a year ago, and altho' I still want to drink alcohol, I can't anymore because of my medication. I've never smoked.

I rarely eat potato chips, mixed nuts, or popcorn anymore because I can no longer afford the extra grocery expense. I own a television, but I never use it because I can't afford cable or satelite.

I won't give up internet because I use it to pay bills, communicate, and search for employment.

Is there anything left to give up? No flippant responses, please.

  • Why do so many askers fail to choose a best answer for their question?

I've been answering questions on Yahoo! Answers for nearly a month now, and the vast majority of my answers which were selected as the best answer were chosen by voters rather than the asker. Why? The asker could get 3 points for just choosing a best answer, and yet it seems that very few of them do this. Is it ignorance? Laziness? Or is it something else entirely?

  • You've got to be kidding me, right?

I answer math questions that have gone at least 15 hours without a response so that people who need more advanced help in mathematics don't fall through the cracks.

I went to answer the question below, to find that somebody else had just answered it. However, upon reading the response of the guy who had beat me to answering the question, I concluded that asker probably needed a little bit more help than an answer along the lines of "I'm clueless" would provide.

Apparently, I was wrong. Despite the fact that my answer showed the mathematical working of the problem that she posed, the asker decided to choose the "I'm clueless" response as the best answer. Hence my question...
