Will I have a good chance at being considered for LAPD SWAT being in the USMC?

Specifically USMC infantry?

Update:

I ABSOLUTELY KNOW THAT YOU DO NOT GET SWAT RIGHT AWAY. JUST ASKING IF I WOULD BE MORE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED FOR SWAT IF I APPLY AFTER BEING IN THE USMC.

--- Almost all police agencies look upon military experience in a favorable light because it shows a degree of maturity and training on the part of the applicant, but more importantly it shows that the applicant knows about and understands the reason for discipline. Also in police work there is a requirement for teamwork and of course you learn that in the USMC too.

--- If you do join the USMC you might want to get yourself into Marine Recon or marine Corp Sniper School, both of which would be looked on favorably in SWAT team recruitment.

-- see[a] in the source box

--- I have quoted the LAPD SWAT Team recruitment page here and placed a link in the source box for you. There you can examine the recruiting process for LAPD patrol 1 positions and the promotions. The SWAT team is a promotion from within the metro-division:

    **** How do I become a SWAT officer? ****

see [b] & [c] in the source box

--- The Special Weapons And Tactics Team (SWAT), is a specialized unit within Metropolitan Division. All specialized assignments within LAPD are promotions, which require training, experience, and selection through the promotional process.

--- The entry-level position for those with the goal of becoming a SWAT officer is Police Officer I, Academy training and field probationary period.

    ------ MILITARY PERSONNEL ------

The Los Angeles Police Department offers an exceptional career opportunity for men and women transitioning out of the military, with excellent salaries and benefits. The LAPD offers more than 250 job assignments, unlimited opportunities for advancement, and the chance to make a difference in the community we serve.

    --- For transitioning military personnel:

    - Starting Annual Salary: $56,522 to $75,878

    --- Benefits include:

    - Receive GI Bill benefits during academy training, if eligible

    - Military reserve friendly employer

    - Expedited testing available

    - Full pay and benefits while in the academy

--- Veterans may be eligible for military bonus points

--- Military personnel who receive an Honorable Discharge are eligible to receive a higher starting pay, for example:

    - 2 Years Military Experience........ $58,798

    - 4 Years Military Experience........ $61,095

    - 6 Years Military Experience........ $64,519

The average SWAT, SRT, CERT, or HRT team member is an officer or deputy who has at least 4 years of street experience...rarely less. They are usually put through a series of physical tests and mental challenges to see how well they perform under pressure. Once accepted, they go through team-building exercises and extensive training in dealing with barricaded suspects, hostage situations, high rish warrants, and other scenarios that would pose a higher chance of danger to street cops. They also cross-train with Army Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEAL teams, and FBI HRT. Of course, this all depends on the size and budget of the agency. LAPD and Miami PD are world renowned for their SWAT teams. So, YES, they are a bit tougher than the average Joe Cop.

Extra duties such as SWAT are bid on by seniority in the force. You cannot just join the department as a SWAT officer.

My agency prefers ex-military for SWAT.
