Whats the best book you've ever read and why?

I really want some good ideas for the next book I will throw myself into. ( I'd prefer something with a happy ending.. but if it doesn't have one I'll probably give it a go anyway)

The Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer.

This books was so well written, I just couldn't put it down. It does have a happy ending but you wouldn't think so in the middle of the book.

No one has mentioned Harry Potter. These books will forever be my favorite, and I've read each of the books at least five times each. It's just amazing and refreshing that there can be books out there that completely take you to a different world, and make you forget what's going on in your own world. Lots of people don't like Harry Potter and think it's dumb, but it definitely appeals to a lot of people. Whenever I'm having a crappy day, I just pick up some Harry Potter and get into it. It's magical

To Kill A Mockingbird, By Harper Lee, read the book saw the movie many times, the movie was as good as the book, and gives a true slice of Alabama in the 1930's. And One Man's attempt to change stereotypes and inlaid prejudice, to a more Christian Way Of Life

I love Meg Cabot (Heather Wells & Queen of Babble, and tons of others), Sophie Kinsella's (Shopaholic [soon to be movie] & Remember Me), Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed & Certain Girls) and Emily Giffin (Something Borrowed & Something Blue) books. They are all great authors!

For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot's young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.

If you want more info or any of the authors website's email me.

It would be a lot easier to make a suggestion if we knew more about you, your age, other books you enjoyed, etc.

I really liked "The Power of One", and "The Agony and the Ecstasy". I am currently reading the Aubrey/Maturin novels and love them. The first one is "Master and Commander" (was made into the Russell Crowe movie).

    too many to pick one...

but Camus' "The Stranger" is a marvelous look at the inane nature of the absurd

ANYthing by Vonnegut - so funny and perfectly satirical

"Becoming a Man" by Paul Monette - written so beautifully

"Nothing Like the Sun" by Anthony Burgess - perfection

as a matter of fact - I'm over due, myself - time to read something new

hmmm i can only narrow it down to three authors...Traci Harding, Isobelle Carmody and Tamora Pierce....i have read every book these authors have written that i can get my hands on...Tamora Peierce's books are almost all set in the same fantasy world but dealing with different characters...they are a perfectly wonderful escape from reality!
