Look on the back of your dvd player. See if it has component (red/green/blue) cable outs for video, if not, does it have an S-video out, if not how about a yellow video out, then look for the red and white audio out.
Now, look on the back of your tv. See which video inputs it has, the component would be first choice, S-video second and yellow third. Plug your video cables (whichever you choose, and choose only one) from the dvd player into the tv. Then plug the red/white audio out from the dvd player into your tvs red and white inputs next to the video input you have chosen.
Now, go to your tv's menu and select the input where you plugged the dvd player, there should be an input or source selector on your remote. Just turn the dvd player on, tv on and start pressing, when the pic shows, you'll have selected the correct source.
Change the input back to the tv source when you're done if you want to watch regular tv.

i think ur tv is too old. do u have the open plug ports in the front or back. for the display and audio to connect? if not then u really have to get a new tv. but if u have and can connect but dosnt display then maybe ur tv is too old to support it.
