A question about freewill?
Proverbs 16:9 "People make plans in their minds but the Lord decides what they will do."
I'm just wondering since humans are supposed to have freewill why does this passage indicate that the Lord will decide for us what do anyways.
If you are going to say I'm taking it out of context would you please put into context for me please.
Thanks.

It is called a "contradiction" and the entire Christian religion is chock full of them. You do have freewill...I suggest you exercise it and forget entirely about man-made religions.

An answer to the thought of freewill in general- if God forced us to do things and we had no choice, then the death of His Son would have been pointless. If God forced every decision we make, then why would He force us to sin when He opposes it so much.
Also, you've got to consider all the scriptures to receive all of the gospel in its proper context. Otherwise two seperate verses may seem completely contradictory.

The Book of Proverbs is in the Old Testament. The Old Testament also tells us not to eat shellfish or pork, not to wear clothes like poly/cotton blends, and that it is all right to kill your disobedient children.
Do you do all those things too? I hope not.
I am not saying that the Bible isn't true. It is true. But God gave you a brain to think with and a heart in which to listen for His guidance. Use it when you approach the Bible.
Our free will is absolute. God does not decide our actions for us any more than He wants people to kill their kids.

Firstly, god, being a fiction, has nothing to do with this. Secondly, free will is a useful model, but not accurate; if one knew all of the sensory inputs that a living being had received during its entire lifetime, one could accurately predict what it would do in a particular situation. Clearly, this is not possible, and a free will model works well enough to be useful.

I fail to see how that passage can be interpreted any other way.
There is also at least one instance in the Bible where God influences someones choices to the great detriment of that individual: Ex.4: 21, where God states that he will make it so that Pharaoh will not let the Israelites go, and that he intends to kill his firstborn.
No, the picture the Bible paints of God is far from pretty...

9 A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
God is there to direct him if he chooses to follow God.
Use your free will to follow God.
