what maximum pressures occur in a diesel engine cylinder during a loading stall situation?

have these vast pressures been measured?

Update:

Nice beaver(I'm sure) thank you for your answer but I was looking for the allowed combustion pressures not the compression ratio, combustion pressures can be enormous in diesels.

Update 2:

Andrew your answer brings close attention to the real answer that I require, however I feel that even these pressures (800-1000) are small compared to the situation where you have a dead stop of the piston during detonation due for instance to injection timing too advanced, in these conditions conrods often undergo a shearing fracture near the small end, have you any info on this destructive pressure?.

With Compression Ratios in excess of 20:1 your looking at 20x14.7 = 294 psi. But I have to confess that I don't know how much variation there is dependent on whether the engine is under a stalling load or lightly loaded.

Yes these pressures are routinely measured by the engine manufacturers during acceptance trials of a new engine design. Also periodically engines are plucked randomly from the production line and fully tested [usually to destruction] to ensure quality control standards are maintained.

The actual pressures experienced depend largely on the type of piston rings and porting control method employed. However in general, diesel engine head gaskets are usually expected to withstand constant 100% over-pressure without failure and to withstand pressures in the range 800 - 1000 PSI is not uncommon for commercial vehicles.

Does anyone knows exactly what can be the maximum pressure and temperature in diesel cycle?
