Why do people say: ''vegans value animal life over human life''?
I don't think animals are more important than humans at all.
For example - If I had to donate £100 to a charity, I would MUCH rather give that money to Cancer Research than the Vegan Society (yes, it's a charity).
Vegans care about human welfare too! :o)
What's with all the thumbs down?!

For a couple of reasons:
They are stereotyping.
They are attempting to create conflict.
They are ignorant of the spirit of veganism.
Don't get me wrong. There are several vegans that post here in VV that certainly put animal welfare ahead of human welfare. I think those people have never had to make a decision which required them to choose an animal over a human.

Some vegans seem like they have this view but very few actually do. One of the reasons for this assumption may be that many vegans are against medical testing on animals that has the possibility to save humans. Another reason is that people may see vegans protesting animal neglect and abuse and ask themselves, "Why aren't they protesting the genocides that are happening?" I know some vegans and none value animal life over human life. The belief that vegans value animal life more is just an assumption made by people who don't take the time to understand vegans' viewpoints.

Because when you don't really know what you're talking about, your only option is to tell your lie so loudly that people start to believe you.
I've never donated money to an animal welfare charity. My diet probably does more good that any monetary gift anyway.
There aren't a whole lot of charities that I even trust anymore. I started leaving $100 tips to waiters/waitresses near Christmas time as my charity, that way I know none of the money is eaten by bureaucracy. I've looked into Child's Play recently, and I think I'll go with them since there are no middlemen (you just send in gifts on your own in their name).

I am sure that only ignorant people would say that. I think that probably the same type of people that would make racist comments would make a generalization like that.
I am a vegan and I give what I can afford equally to charities for humans and charities for animals -- and charities for the benefit of the earth too.

Humans are animals, just FYI. However, I would protect a person over another animal. I would run into the road to grab the kid, but not the dog. I would pull the woman out of the burning car and not the hamster. I would dig the man out of the rubble of a collapsed building before worrying about the cat. That being said, I don't think it is right for people to kill or harm animals unnecessarily. I would absolutely not hesitate to innterfere if I saw someone beating a dog. Sure, I would save the person's life before the dog's. That doesn't mean that I think the person should be allowed to kick Fido (unless he's gone all Cujo and it is self-defense).

I agree, but if you look at all of the billions of dollars already spent on human welfare and put that side by side with the money spent on animal welfare, you'll see a huge difference.
Trust me, I've worked in both fields and have seen the difference in money a non-profit human hospital has over a non-profit animal clinic. Animal welfare charities need a huge boost in the financial section to even come close to being on par with their human counterparts.
So although I do think that animals and humans are both equals in their "rights", animals need a lot more support from us.

they actually claim that they value animal life as much as human life, but I dont agree with that, I value human life a lot more then animal life.its some meat eaters looking at vegans say that vegans dont care about human life as much as animal.

Well I for one value animal life over human life but thats just my personal opinion. If anything people should consider animals at least equal to us. Theres no need for us to be so cruel to say " We are the dominant ones and no animal is smarter then I,blah blah" Its not fair to judge so quickly. Theres tons of animals that can outwit us anyday. I for one care very little about human welfare because people have many opportunities and if theyre not smat enough to take advantage of that then go ahead become a bum and become a disgrace to society. As for cancer research-I will not support the cruel world of animal testing. There are other ways to help cure cancer and Im all for those. Animals need all the help they can get because of people who are like you and would rather help their own species. Thats why the few of us vegans that are this way for the animals also help the animals as much as they can. Someone should, right?

I don't value you animal life over human life. Of course I value humans more but I do put a lot of value on animals and that is why I won't eat any animal products.

I in fact do value animal life slightly more than human life.
Animals are = to childrens lives.
I like animals and children. Humans I am less compassionate for. Because humans are concious of what is going on and have a voice. Also humans are the ones causing harm to animals and to one another on purpose. Animals are not jealous or seek revenge. They do not act out of spite but just out of their nature.
I have donated to many animal societies (i'm in college so don't really have tons of money) rather than charities for humans.
That's me. I don't feel that there is anything wrong with me loving animals more than humans. I don't hurt humans! It's my opinion and my life.
