How does a radio aerial work in broadcasting?

Current in the antenna results in both a magnetic and an electric field being created around the antenna.

The magnetic field surrounds the antenna's driven element.

The electric field is parallel to the antenna's driven element.

Both fields extend outwards, away from the transmitting antenna.

I have a look at the A.R.R.L's web site (Google for it) they may have links to antenna theory. (It's a long time since I visited their site.)
