How do senior citizens keep falling for sweepstakes scams?

I read another article about another dumb senior citizen who was told she won a million dollars but to claim her prize she had to wire 16K to a Canadian bank account. How can these dummys keep falling for this?

Update:

curious connie- Yes people of all ages CAN fall for scams, but never do. It's just the dumb senior citizens.

We work for the USPS. Years ago, We would deliver almost full coverage(almost everyone received a sweepstakes envelope) to our routes and on the outside of the envelope it was only your name and some other person 2 thousand miles away who were potential winners.. You would be surprised as to how many people mailed off the contents of the envelope the next few days to that company. In 25 years, I've known 0 people who have won a sweepstakes of any value. Now I deliver to a mother and her grown daughters who must receive at least 3-4 a day from various contests. They are on social security and assistance and should not be wasting their money on a lost cause, but you can't tell people how or where to spent their money.

Let's not pick on the Seniors again !!! There are many trusting people in this world of ALL ages who are scammed all the time whether you want to admit it or not. They trust everyone & never think that anyone would scam them in any way. Since they are trusting souls, they become prey for scammers who have no conscience. Name calling is so immature, especially when you target the Seniors.

Bull bologna Jimmy. Its not only senior citizens that fall for scams. It's everybody. Everyone falls for some kind of scam in their life. Once we get screwed we don't fall for it again! We would never learn anything in life if we didn't make mistakes!!! A perfect world would be a boring place to live !!!!

You're wrong. All kinds of people do. Recently most of them have been 20 and 30 somethings who fell for the biggest scam of all--- buy a MacMansion with "free" money. They were just too dumb to read their contracts and too dumb to realize they couldn't afford what they were buying. Don't you read the newspaper or watch the news on TV?

Jimmy, not just seniors fall for those scams other people fall for those scams I think we hear about it more because if they are a senior Citizen and 79 years old it will be very hard if not impossible to earn that money back so it is more new worthy. We dont know why they act so dumb if it is greed or what.

Here on seniors we have three scammer that have scammed people out of money on here. It is right in peoples face what these people did and are doing so many seniors on here look the other way. They still want to believe these people to be good people. They know by answering the questions they post and befriending them on this website they are letting them find new victims. Seniors Ya have a lot of great people with a big heart that have give a lot of money to help out one lady with a step daughter, dog, and a teardrop. That later people found out was a scammer. A man that needed an operation to save his legs, gas money that seniors on here sent money. The lady heard the older man got sent 3,000 from YA seniors she packed up her child and dog and drove to him to help him spend every penny of it.When the money was gone she kick him to the curb and left him three states from his home. Then from Feb to August stoled from other seniors on here and her lover Peapie help her get more money . they change the names on here but here they are RT66 who now is islandhopper, ladylee, now posing as Sappire. Peapie aka churchlady Morgan to many aka to list. That sad part is the seniors on here will delete this and that is dumb because this happened here on YA seniors. the list goes on and on what these 3 have done. The money they collective.

Have you ever saw MorganO go to work NO but I know of people he took money from.but he talks about it. has he told you lately his computer his broke and he is using a friends not true he is on Seniors everyday . He already collect money to get his computer fix. That isn't broke
