Please, need help on elders care. ?

I have a friend whose mom is 80 years old. She’s the only child (my friend). Her mom has dementia and has pretty much given up on life since her father died 20 years ago. Her only income is social security and her house is paid for. Other than those two, she doesn’t have additional money coming in. Her mom may not have a many years to live and may even end up at the nursing home within the next few months.

Please, I need to know what options her mom has as far as free heath care even home care. She has health insurance, but that’s racking up fast. She had to be rushed to the emergency room last week and she’s been there for 9 days now. My friend has to pay all the co-pays and other fees that the insurance doesn’t cover.

Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

Can her grandmother and mom get on disability?

That would give a small income, and put them on medicaid, which is free medical.

It's a long process so it might take a while and most people get denied the first few times, but it might be worth a shot.

    Best of luck.

She should go & talk to someone at social security to find out what her options are in her particular circumstance.

I'm on a carers pension for looking after my mum (in Australia) and theres heaps of help I could get if I needed it through social security, veteran affairs etc. Social security should know how best to help & contact.
