I have a great desire to sing, can I make a living out of it?
I've been told I have great pitch, and I have been writing songs for years. Where do I go to get my foot in the door? Is there any way to find out if I am as great as I feel in my soul? Can someone direct me to the proper people? Give a name, phone number...Thanks.

You can make a living out of anything if you try hard enough.
First you need a band. Using the classifieds on myspace is a great way to find a band. That's how my friend found his band.
After you find a band you guys need to practice some and start playing at local venues. House of Bricks is where most a lot of local bands here in Des Moines start playing. Then you either need to get discovered by agents seeing you play at gigs or start recording stuff and finding agents.

You should read everything at
http://www.agentassociation.com/
Before you get an agent, you need to find every opportunity to perform at the local. Depending on what type of music you write and sing, contact groups that do this type of music. Local Bands etc. Make CDs of a little of your work. If you are afraid it will be stolen, don't record full songs. Be willing to do one song with a group.
You have to do the contacting at first. You have to search for opportunities. Can you make a living? It is possible, but not easy and definitely not a sure thing.

First ambition is not the process. Performance is the process.
There are four good openings in singing. One is tradition, that is
Lord in Heaven work at Temples, churches, universities does make
one valuable in skill, and talent. That road is defined however with
adjusting ones voice to the wave of popularity and staying out of
further ambition to become product. You must have good discipline
to be inspiration in the bible school. Second is local. Good work
at local places usually is jazz, country depending again on personal
ambitions to achieve full employment. Cooks, chefs, waiters in their
locations that sing could explain this area. Third teaching is a solid
choice, universities are amazing resource world of talent and
true, truth being a product of your experience in entertaining. To
be great as a youth does happen. Finally fourth is the business.
Some go into existing training to work in their favorite travel, or
social service. Have fun, learn to read music. Try this course to
get experience. College university course on jazz jobs. You have
to get local jobs as homework, being the universities diverse free
supply of instruments is good input and right area to learn.
