    1)

    x^2 - 10x + 14 = 0

    x = [-b ±√(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a

    a = 1

    b = -10

    c = 14

    x = [10 ±√(100 - 56)]/2

    x = [10 ±√44]/2

    x = [10 ±√(2^2 * 11)]/2

    x = [10 ±2√11]/2

    x = 5 ±√11

    ∴ x = 5 ±√11

    = = = = = = = =

    2)

    √(x + 2) = 6

    x + 2 = 6^2

    x + 2 = 36

    x = 36 - 2

    x = 34

    x^2 - 10x = -14 x^2 - 10x + 25 = -14 + 25 x^2 - 10x + 25 = 11 (x - 5)^2 = 11 x - 5 = ± √11 x = 5 ± √11

    im going to assume its acutally x^2 so:

    x^2 - 10x + 14 = 0

    5 plus or minus square root of 11

    and

    sqrt(x+2) = 6

    x + 2 = 6^2

    x + 2 = 36

    x = 36 - 2

    x = 34
