What does this symbol mean?

Red box with a red x inside. This is painted on a very rundown house that is on the market. I assume it means it is condemned. Am I right?

Update:

Thank you both. My husband thought this would be a good fixer-upper but it is just really only good for the land it is on (maybe).

In some states it means that the house is scheduled for demolition. The requirement of spraypainting a large red box and "X" was made after several homes were mistakenly demolished, because the demolition team misread the street number. The requirement of placing a large box w/X allows a homeowner that is not planning a demolition time to report vandalism to the police, and stop any erros from occurring.
