Moon shots: How do I reduce the corona around the moon?

Saturday night I was taking moon shots and they came out nearly tack-sharp. Then last night, using almost the same exposure they were showing with a corona around the moon. What gives? Atmosphere? Dirty lens? (I took the UV filter off, no help). Can you provide any guidance?

Thank you. TrueNorth

Not seeing your pictures it is hard to suggest, but the two here are one comment. Maybe atmospheric haze or cloud....

There 'could' have been fog on your lens if the temp was right and water condensed on it a bit. Maybe a fingerprint..? Again, with out seeing any examples, it's hard to say.

Here are a few Moon shots of mine, with high atmospheric haze and some with out, using lenses from very wide angle to very telephoto, all on a D-SLR and tripod.

If you see a Corona around your moon be careful not to sit on it and if you want to get rid of it, just put a lemon in it and slam it down.

All joking aside, don't panic, it's not your camera, it's not your lens, it's not the filter and adding one won't make it go away... it's just your timing.

Atmospheric conditions contribute to the corona affect and you just picked a high humidity day to shoot. Crisp night air is usually a result of moisture (you don't feel as cold if there is no humidity). Just look at the moon through your lens and if you see corona... wait for another time when the conditions suit your choices.

Not every sunrise is perfect... same goes for the moon.

Are you serious? Even an eight-year old could figure this one out. There was a camera attached to the landing module. It filmed Armstrong stepping foot onto the moon. Where do people get this weird idea that someone has to be behind a video camera for it to film? I guess you have never heard of a remote control camera or a tripod before??? I've filmed a few YouTube videos, which were taken with a camera that I had placed on a table. No one was filming me. Does this mean that my videos are a hoax? Because who was filming me? FYI, you should have asked "Who shot the FIRST moon landing", seeing as how there were SIX manned lunar landings.

The "corona" is most commonly cause by moisture in the atmosphere and is most noticeable when the sky is a little cloudy. Not much you can do about it except to speed up the shutter or stop down the aperture a bit.

The corona that you see around the moon is moisture in the atmosphere.Usually indicates that it is going to rain.
