I have not seen the episode but my father did. It's Fort Ord CA. I lived there in 1992. From the sound of it they may have been on the street I lived on even. The houses were abandoned after the base closed in 92-93. The original plan was for the housing area to be turned over to HUD but they rejected them for being substandard which was kind of funny seeing as how they were fine for our military and their families. Anyway that was 16 years ago and it's all fallen apart since then.

The town is or was called Hinkley, CA. It is abandoned because the level of Chromium (vI) in the groundwater in Hinkley exceeded the Maximum Contaminant Level of 0.10 ppm.

Pacific Gas & Electric out there was in a big lawsuit, hence the part on the show where they were in an abandoned power plant.

Check out wikipedia, for Erin Brockovich, who led the lawsuit.

What's even more interesting is that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley,_California states that US Census won't even define Hinkley as a specific place.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers!

Imber on Salisbury undeniable is terrific (on militia land yet they open it approximately as quickly as a twelve months for visitors); there are additionally finished villages with historical origins that now lie below countless reservoirs the place valleys have been flooded. there replaced right into a submerged village in derbyshire; in a drought twelve months you are able to desire to make certain the steeple at one time yet i've got faith it replaced into bumped off in the final 20 years or so because of the fact of hazard to conceivable visitors. There are additionally the remnants of abandoned medieval villages, that have been abandoned after maximum citizens died in the Black dying.. besides the incontrovertible fact that, those frequently are no greater beneficial than earthworks now. often times the church will stay, enormously if yet another community had taken it over. In Abington Park in northampton, the little church there as quickly as served a now vanished medieval village.

I agree that it's an abandoned military base.

I disagree that it's Hinkley. One look at Google Earth shows a completely different landscape.
