Is it true that perfumes smell differently depending on the person wearing it?

I hear many people saying it, but I find this to be a case of "conventional wisdom," that is, bullshit that people simply repeat because they have always heard other people say it. How many of you have really taken the time to smell two different people who wear the same perfume and sniff out the differences in smell?

Have there been studies proving that different skins produce significant chemistry capable of altering the smell of X perfume?

Note: In your answer, don't feed me bullshit. Give me studies or logical explanations. Let's not forget that drinking 8 glasses of water was supposed to be a proven truth until scientists proved it to be bullshit.

Body chemistry, diet and age affect fragrances on their skin. Also, fragrance consists of many essential oils. Certain essential oils have affinity to our skin, and they may be absorbed while other may not. This creates an imbalance on the skin and accounts for the difference.

I have tried the experiment with a quite a number of my friends and i found that there is a little variation in the smell of the perfume from one person to the other especially if the perfume is of cheap quality. I think the variation in the smell has more to do with how the perfume reacts to our skin and may be even our bodily odors.

When we carried our experiment we did it under a controlled environment and we made sure all of us showered at the same time and for the past day we ate the same type of food since we were living in the same university dorms but when the time came for us to do our experiment, there was definitely a variation in the way the perfume smelt on most of us. There were four of us and while generally from a distance the perfume seem to smell the same on a close sniff it really smelt different from one person to the next.

I'm not saying our experiment was perfect but in the morning when we analyzed our results we all agreed there was a difference. All of us were black Batswana guys raised in almost the same settings, with almost the same eating habits except here and there and all of us (except one guy who was 21 at the time) were 20 years of age. So i do believe perfumes can smell different on different people yes.

Everyone's Chemical make up is different. It has a lot to do with your diet. there are smells that are really nice on my mom but smell horrible on me. Like I cant wear baby powder deodorant, But i can wear anything citrus. I can pull off very few smells and this holds true with men. I had 2 boyfriends and different times who liked the same cologne. on one he smelled great the other i made him change it.

Another thing too it could be, is the way the smell is perceived. But this is just my experience.

    Well,

When I was in Sephora, I asked this. The woman said that all perfumes have some substance that mixes with your enzymes. She also said that because people have different skin types, they react differently to such topical sprays. Hope I helped, because I think that lady knew what she was talking about!

Yes, your body has natural oils and enzymes that mix with different scents. This causes perfumes and colgnes to smell SLIGHTLY different on different people.
