What is the current health care plan?
McCain and Obama keep saying they're going to reform the failing health care, and I know what both of their policies are, but what is the current policy that they are going to reform?

There is no national health plan.... just a bunch of companies who claim to help you when you get sick or injured. But when you do get sick or injured they say you haven't paid your premiums, and leave you there to die or suffer.

As a Canadian, I can tell you our system is weakened but not dead. We have basic health care provided, plus emergency care as needed. For everyone. So, wait times are longer and we don't all get everything we would like... but, my pregnancy, emergency C-section, 5 days in the hospital on morphine, cost me nothing. And if my kid ever needed a bone set, or an appendectomy, or something, I would pay nothing. Through my job I have additional coverage, but even if I was laid off, basic care for my family would still be covered. I am OK with, and proud of, the fact that everyone gets at least the basics.
We can moan about taxes, and wait times, but then we have the Conservatives in up here who want to shift towards an American-style system. What we need is more doctors (they are better paid in the States, cause free market capitalism there works for them, not the people) and more hospital beds, not privatization.

The currant health plane is simply this: Say what ever it takes to win this election period. If you recall, Clinton used the same platform when he was running for president. But when he was president he was stoned walled at every turn. He said if he knew he could do little for health care reform, that he would have worked more on Social Security . That's why Hillary used it to try to get nominated. To get you to vote for her. Simply put, tell the American people what they want to hear and you will get the votes. I don't put much stock in it myself. I voted for Reagan because his platform was balancing the budget and paying down the national debt. That's all he could talk about. Go to national debt on the web and see what he did while in office. And while you are at it see which party is at fault for where it is today.

The current policy is-Every man for themselves. Prey you can find a job that at least makes it somewhat affordable, prey you don't get ill because your plan doesn't cover crap. And if you become ill and have no insurance, like 25% of us. Well welcome to lifetime of debt that will crush your dreams and leave you nothing more than a broken vessel. Seems pretty ok to me, why change it?
Just in case you didn't know it, Health insurance costs about 800 bucks a month for a never used it healthy family. Get an illness they drop you. then if you can find it they will want about 1,200 a month.

There isn't a policy. You pay for insurance or you don't. You either have the insurance to help cover the costs or it all comes out of your pocket.

the current plan is...if you have $ you get your health taken care of. If you don't, it is like you live in a 3rd world nation.
