Here's the problem:

Two airplanes depart from an airport traveling in opposite directions. The second airplane is 200 miles per hour faster than the first. After 2 hours they are 1100 miles apart. Find the speeds of the airplanes.

could you please explain to me how you come about with the answer as well please, i really don't understand how to do it.

    1100-(2*200)=700

    700/2=350

    350/2=175

    175+200=375

    375 mph and 175 mph

    Work check:

    375+175= 550

    550*2=1100

you first have to subtract 200 mi for each hour because of speed difference

then, divide by two for the mph of both planes. then divide be 2 for the slower plane's speed and add 200 to the slow plane's speed for the faster's speed. the bottom adds the two speeds then adds the two hour factor in to show they would be 1100 mi apart.

One airplane is going 175 mph and the other is going 375 mph.
