12 volt input digital TV converter?

Is there such a device? All converters I've found so far require an optional 110 volt to 12 volt converter. I don't have 110 volts. I have 12 volt batteries and a power converter uses too much power. I am looking for a 12 volt powered digital to analog converter with no adapters.

As others have said, if you do find a converter that takes a 12v input, then you're golden, just make up a cable with the right plug (match it to what's on the AC-DC adapter) and connect it to your 12 volt batteries.

My Zinwell ZAT-970 uses 5 VDC thru an external adapter, so if I wanted to power it from 12 volts, I'd have a few choices.

One is to get something like a 273-1811 from Radio Shack - that takes 12v from a car outlet and produces various selectable output voltages. But at over 26 bucks, that's expensive.

I could choose to use a rechargeable NiCd or NiMh battery pack of appropriate voltage and jack that into my ZAT. 4 cells would produce 4.8 volts, close enough I'd opine.

Since I'm handy with electronics, I'd get a 7805 voltage regulator chip and a few parts and for about $5 I'd have a 12v to 5v power source.

These things don't seem to use a lot of power (5 watts maybe) so you won't need high power sources or converters.

Here is the list of all retaillers:

    http://www.ezdigitaltv.com/Converter_Box_Retailers...

Goto that site and click on "Additional Features Comparison Chart" (about mid page) and it will take you to the new page with a table. The last column of this table is "External Power Supply". Just pick the one with 12 Volts supply.

I am doing exactly what you are doing: shopping for one with 12v power supply so I can use it on my car.

Ohh, please note that those will come with 110V AC to 12V DC converter. I am planing to just bypass that converter and plug the 12 V DC power source to the TV converter

Please keep me posted on which one you pick. I looked at many and I don't like any yet! :)

    Good luck to you

Here's a link to a converter box that runs directly from 12V (like a car or motorcycle battery) http://www.ezdigitaltv.com/RVs_and_Converter_Boxes...

Here is a link to a battery operated converter box http://www.winegarddirect.com/
