Yea! Oil prices! Who's with me?

Update:

Andrew, I expect that from environmentalists. Not to be nasty.

I feel there is sufficient evidence to suggest the Sun activity is what causes the heating and cooling of our planet, so lower oil prices are congruent with the prosperity of America.

what the hell is your question?

$2 a gallon gasoline and diesel will move this economy. The price of food has gone up because of this. I am however for building more fuel efficient cars such as diesels, but keep diesel the same price as gasoline. I am for more drilling to create new jobs here and for nuclear power. We need to drill and slowly adapt to new forms of energy. We cannot do it overnight, but we do need to drill. If petroleum drops, people have more money to spend in the market. With high fuel prices it hurts the travel industry. High fuel prices will discourage use and maybe that is what the environmentalists want. I am not for gas guzzling vehicles, but sadly people with big families need the room. This is where the fuel efficient diesel power plant comes into play. Diesel power in SUV's will increase fuel economy 25% or more. In cars the savings goes up even more.

One thing Andrew fails to take into account: as oil prices increase, everything else in the economy increases in price. Studies have shown that as money becomes tighter and tighter, environmental concerns quickly fall by the wayside. So Andrew, you may be wishing your misguided belief system out of existence.

I'm actually happy when oil prices go up - here's why:

An increase in oil prices drives people to conserve, which makes some people buy smaller cars.

The automakers then see this trend and adjust to make more efficient cars. (Look at what GM has done in the past few months with hummer and SUV plant, etc..)

More money is invested in alternative energy research as a way to combat the use of petroleum.

As less petroleum is consumed, less of it has to be imported from the Saudi's.

    That's just my $0.02
