How do you convert liters/sq meter to inches of rainfall?

Over here, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, we experience a weather phenomenon called a "gota fria", literally a "cold drop" It usually happens in October, after a particularly hot summer, such as this past summer. During this cold drop, the quantities of rain are HUGE, often washing away bridges, highways and rail lines and flooding whole towns and villages. If anyone out there can help with the conversion to inches of rain, I would be grateful. Thanks

Go to google.com and type in "x liter/square meter in inch" where x is the amount of liter/square meters.

A liter is 1000 cubic cm, and a square meter is 10,000 square cm.

    So 1 liter/m^2 is a depth of 0.1 cm = 10 mm.

    0.1 cm = 0.03937... inches

    So ...

    1 liter/m^2 = 0.04 inches

    10 liter/m^2 = 0.39 inches

    25 liter/m^2 = 0.98 inches

    100 liter/m^2 = 3.94 inches

    200 liter/m^2 = 7.87 inches

I though rainfalls were mostly given in mm?
