What do you think about China?

They have had a one child policy since the early 1980's. It is proving to be a problem for China now. Because most chinese families prefer males (to carry on the family name and take care of their parents), they have either been aborting or abandoning girl children. And now many girl children have been adopted out of country. Now China faces a shortage of females to marry all the young men who have now come of age and need wives. They realize now that one can not mess around with the natural order of life and not cause major problems.

So they are slowing changing their policy and allowing more families to have more than one child so that they will keep the girls.

China is becoming more westernized than ever before, and will likely become the next big superpower in the world as they are slowing giving up communist ways in favor of capitalism. But they have a long way to go.

I think China is definitely a force not to be trifled with. Also, the one-child rule is a good idea. I mean, it sucks that you can't choose to have a big family or even two children ... but in the long run it would reduce the population because 2 people having one child cuts the next generation down by half (if everyone follows it.)

I think that its a bad idea to try and control human reproduction by fining and forcing people to place their children up for adoption so that infertile Americans can buy them. Its not working and its causing atrocities. Has the adoption society looked into the number of suicides this has caused. No..they don't care because they are making a profit.

How would you feel being raised by strangers in a foreign country and not being able to speak to your real mother because of the language barrier and/or not being able to find her due to fraudulent paperwork.

How do you tell a child that you bought them because your mother that loved you was forced to relinquish you and I took advantage of it as well as contributed to it because I wanted a baby.

While it has reduced the population growth rate quite a bit,like the other answerer reminded U,it also has resulted in a strongly biased ratio of males vs. females, something on the order of 120 males:100 females,due to traditional preferences for sons,since it's them who always inherits property and the daughters whom prove to be a burden since by the time the marry, the daughters family always must provide a ransom to the grooms family just so she won't have to do housework as much.

China's birth rate is falling (its around 1.3). However, it still needs imported food, soil regenerators, imported fertilizer and it has shrinking fresh water supplies. It is possible that China will be grossly overpopulated when the Age of Scarcity comes in the wake of peak oil. It may end up resorting to war in order to seize the resources it needs to survive.
