Twilight: Does anyone else get depressed?
OK, so first, i got twilight a week a go thinking it was a vampire horror book. When I found out it was mainly a romance book, i didnt want to read it (because im a boy, and i dont usually like that stuff). But i started reading it anyway, and i couldnt put it down. I ended up getting slightly obsessed with it, and i think i was obsessed with their passionate love for each other. I couldnt stop reading it, and I thought the best parts of the series were the bits with just Edward and Bella. It made me feel happy reading about their love for each other.
I've read twilight, new moon, eclipse, and am about half way through breaking dawn. When I got to eclipse, i noticed that about 5 minutes after I put the book down i got sorta depressed and sad. So i either had to go back and carry on reading, or sit there thinking about it (even in school). Anwyay, it's still like that now, but i try not to think of it, and BD doesn't have as much love as i wanted, but its OK i guess, and i still get a bit depressed when im not reading it. AND IM A BLOKE FFS! It isnt that I love anyone in the books or anything like that (I know a lot of girls who love edward lol) - im not gay :P. It's just something about it thats got me obsessed with it, and i dont know why.
I don't know how I'll cope when ive finished. Does anyone else get like this? Or has been like this? I know midnight sun is coming out, but it won't feel the same unless it's in bella's perspective. Also, i think the movie will ruin the books, and people that havent read it wont want to read it, and wont understand the meaning of it, and why its such a good saga. Anyone else agree?
woow now theres a lot of replies :)
Yeah I'm kinda embarrassed that I'm a guy, but i bet if my mates actually read it, they'd get like me lol. Yeah I found new moon boring, because my favourite parts are just with Edward and Bella. BD isn't as good because there isn't hardly any of those parts. I know im guna be sad when its finished, but ill just read them again and beg SM to make others lol. It's good to know I'm not the only one that gets this way. I get so emmersed in the story I actually feel what the caracters are feeling, as if it's them. And yeah I guess i wish i could be in a relationship like that. I've never really been in a relationship for more than a few months, that was just a crush...
and I'm 14 in 2 weeks for someone that asked :)
yeah I've read cirque du freak, but I also feel as if i dont want to stop reading twilight and get over it. I get depressed but i would hate to just forget about it. Also, I do hope midnight sun comes out, because Edward seems so perplexing to me. It will make me understand him better. And yeah i loved all the bits in the meadow etc. I didnt like the way it was going with bella and Jacob (also my name lol), because i thought edward was better for her, and they were more in love. Also, does anyone know any IRC chatrooms about twilight that has a lot of people on usually?
Thanks for all your comments, i didnt know there were so many people who feel like I do about these books. I think SM's ability to make you connect with the characters and feel like you're them and experience their feelings is amazing as well...

I felt this somewhat with Twilight, but not as much, because I knew that Midnight Sun was coming out, and I haven't been part of the fandom for all that long (2 years). I felt this way more with Harry Potter, which I've had in my life for over 7 years, and I've grown up with it. I spent a few hours in the days before DH was released writing down my feelings about the series ending, and my theories about the final book. Pathetic, I know, but that was my way of remembering my crazy theories, and I knew that years later, I would want to have that.
It's always a sad thing when a book series ends. You get so wrapped up in it, and it becomes such a huge part of your life, with the theorizing and obsessing, that you get sad and scared when you know it's close to ending, and then when it does, depression hits you hard. But, after they end, there's still more. We still don't have all of the answers for HP or Twilight. We can still theorize and talk about them. And, more importantly, we can go back and relive the memories in the books. There's always fanfiction, as well, if you want to get more Edward/Bella time. I'm not sure what I would have done without a little HP fanfic in the months after it ended. And I'm writing my own Twilight fanfic at the moment, so between that and the movie I really haven't felt like wallowing. It's still there for me.
Many of us wish that we could be in that kind of relationship. I think that's part of the reason Twilight is so popular; the idea of meeting someone who is perfect for you, and falling almost instantly in love with them. And we can really get that through the first-person account. I personally love that about the books.
I'm not too worried about the movie, actually. I'm looking foward to it. It seems like the producers are keeping the essential elements that make Twilight so awesome, and even some things from the book. If you follow some of the fan sites (links below) and watch the trailers, I think you'll see that. The producers have been working closely with Stephenie, Rob's read all of what Stephenie's written for Midnight Sun (so he really knows how Edward is supposed to feel), and it just seems like they are putting so much effort into making this great. Of course it won't be exactly like the book, though. After seeing HP mutilated before my eyes *moment of silence for Prisoner of Azkaban*, I'm happy if they keep the important ideas, some of the lines, and all of the important situations (like them being in bio class and the meadow scene, which are definitely in there). If they have a different conversation in a different place, I'm pretty much fine with that, as long as it's in character.
And also, don't feel bad or ashamed about being a guy and liking Twilight. There are plenty of guys out there who read it. I wish more did. In fact, one guy started a site, twilightguy.com. Kaleb Nation, the Twilight Guy, is awesome. He just finished New Moon, and he writes an analysis and his thoughts on each chapter. I'm making it more boring than it sounds; they are actually quite humorous. There's a chat on there that has both guys and girls, and there are usually plenty of people at normal hours. You might want to give Twilight Guy a try, because you won't have to feel weird about being a guy. Everyone that's on there is into Twilight, so "zero weirdness", to quote Bella from the movie. (Also, I'm Mia on there as well, so if you see me, say hi XD)
I've posted the links to two of the top fan sites, Twilight Guy, the latest movie trailer (to reassure you about the movie), and another chat site that's usually decent.

well i have read all the books and im so very sad to see them end. i thought i was going crazy in how much i had this feeling to go sit down and read. i was really into the parts where ,in twilight, bella and edward are in the meadow. i do believe that the movie will be great. but i also believe that in order to see the movie you must first read the books or at least the first one. midnight sun might not be published but i hope so . i have read the first 264 pages on her web page and love them. i hope she still decides to publish it. i am trying to read other books without success but i hope that others can answer the question in which why it is such a good saga cuz im looking for that one myself. well i also hope my answer helped a little too.

Thank U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought it was just me and ive read all of them and when i finished i was gonna cry because i was sad it was over. i also heard that 12 chapters of midnight sun got leaked so stephinie meyer stop writing it but thats just something i heard. i not really in love with any of the characters either. i read of twilight before all of the "popular girls" thought is was cool. the movie will probably ruin the books bc the trailers left out the major key parts that made it make sense and when they come rescue bella only edward was there. So i hope this helped ya in some kinda way!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

When I started reading the first book I would get really anxious.. it's a feeling I can't explain.. I guess it was sort of a nervous feeling, like my heart was beating weird, I was shaking.. things like that. But as I kept reading the books, the feeling was kind of dissolving.. once I was done with the last book, the feeling was gone. I read the first book again and the feeling came back. The book just has weird side effects that's all. And I also like to hear that there are some straight guys in the world that like reading the books.. haha :) thanks!

i get what you are talking about. i have read all of them. also my favorite parts were with just bella and edward. new moon was boring. the worst of them all...altho i still like it. i am completely obsessed with the twilight saga. and whenever i wasnt reading it, i was thinking about it. still am. anyway i wouldnt say im "in love" with any of the characters.
my least favorite character in the whole saga is bella. simply because she was never happy with just edward. she always wanted more and what she couldnt have. she cried about everything. she was very immature for her age. and yes she saw that but she did nothing about trying to help it.
and your point about the movie. i am going to try to go to a midnigt showing of it. although i know it will not be as good as the book, im going anyway.

When I first started reading it, I was exactly like that. I got over it over time , but it was mainly because when I was reading it, I felt like I was kind of in another life, and then when I stopped reading, it was time to face reality.
Read other great books as well, honestly...there ARE other books that can "take you away". Twilight isn't the only great book out there...and the more you read, the more you'll get over that feeling.
How old are you?

yeah, i agree. especially about the part where "if ppl saw the movie b4 they read the book, they wouldnt wanna read the book, ruining it".
i know u didnt ask 4 it, but if u want some vampire books, these r my suggestions (they MIGHT not b that satisfying, considering most of it is gore, but ppl hav different tastes):
"Thirsty" by M.T. Anderson
"Cirque du Freak" series by Darren Shan
lol, hopefully i didnt suggest the books that u've already read

I TOTALLY agree with all of what you said.
Especially the thing about people not wanting to read the books because of the movie!
When I was reading the books, I got obsessed too - when I wasn't reading it, I felt like I SHOULD be reading it and it was all i thought about...
That's why I kept re reading them.

i know exactly what you mean
lol
dont be embarrassed that you like those books, i think its really cool that you like those books.
but yea, when i read a book (especially romance ones) i get upset when they end.
it's almost like you're in the book, and you begin to feel the emotions of the characters. when that happens, it REALLy makes you upset when they end.
i also agree with that last part. if a person doesnt read the book but they see the movie it will ruin the whole purpose and emotion of the book. thats just my opinion
but like i said, dont be embarrassed or anything
