Try "Little Town of Bethlehem" they recreated the city and got actors from the surrounding churches to play the parts. Its extremely fun and interesting. It may be a long drive but it's worth it.

    Cathy,

In Austin, try the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. Held at the Austin Convention Center. This is their 33rd year. For those that aren't familiar with it, it's a honky-tonk bar shopping event, live music performances and over 100 local and regional artists.

Then there is always the Trail of Lights. People got real upset a few years ago when the city said it was too expensive to maintain. Now Dell has taken over and it draws thousands every year. Check the web site and plan on taking a shuttle. Roads nearby are closed/diverted.

Marble Falls - Walkway of Lights on Lake Marble Falls. Nice drive about 45 minutes northwest of Austin. November 21, 2009 - January 3, 2009.

Fredericksburg - Holiday Wine Trail planned for December. They go all out decorating the town - site is listed below, check the calendar under 'visitor info.'

Gruene is another spot worth considering. Gruene Dance Hall for musical entertainment, town lighting events and market days. Look under 'holidays in gruene,' lots of events planned.

One of my favorite trips around Christmas is the San Antonio Riverwalk. Try to catch the Ford Holiday Boat Caroling, site listed below.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Oh, and like tracymae above says, Merry Christmas!

Fredericksburg would be nice. There are lots of shops and food.

Please, the liberals want you to call it the Winter Holiday Season, not Christmas. Sick isn't it?
