Crochet Pattern help ( again sigh...) Please?
Right front : Ch 28 (31, 34, 37)
Row 1 ( right side) v st in 7th chain from hook, skip 2 ch, *v st in next ch, skip 2 ch; rep from * to last ch, tr in last ch; turn -7 (8, 9, 10) v stitches
Begin Shaping row 2: ch 4 [ v st over v st] (means work v st in chain 1 sp of v st) 6 ( 7, 8, 9) times tr in next ch 1 sp; turn.
Rows 3,5,7,9 ch 4, * v st over v st; rep from * to last st; tr in top of ch 4 turn

Ok this is the part of the pattern I need help with ( this is for a cropped jacket)
Rows 4,6,8,10 ch 4, *vstitch over v stitch; rep from * to last st; tr in top of ch -4 ; turn - 2(3,4,5) v-stitches at end of row 10.
Rows 11-12 (11-12, 11-13,11-13): Rep row 3.
fasten off
so at the end of row 10 I am supposed to have 3 v- stitches?????? ( I am doing a med size)???? I dont understand how to get to that little of stitches when the previous rows say v stitch over v stitch, I mean thats like doing the same # right???
lol i got a shape from this but i dunno if its right....... b/c I have the same # of v stitches all the way through.... ( aggravating)

Thanks Katherine, I guess you are right about reading it over and over.... but ughhhh man its like the way they are worded throws me off sometimes.....

From the way I read the instructions, all you are doing is the same stitches row after row with the exception of increasing by 3 v-stitches at the end of each row. My trick with difficult instructions is to follow each individual step one step at a time and repeat until the pattern shows correctly. I came across I think 1 pattern that had a mistake in it. I found it by using this technique.

It sounds like the 3 V st are part of the shaping. It is not unheard of for a pattern to be written incorrectly so if you do the same on both sides it will look the same.
Sometimes our brain makes us want to do it our way and not the way it is written. I prefer the new patterns where you work from a picture of the pattern with symbols . Hang in there!
