The Nodes represent karmic life challenges that we must learn to work towards. They are not necessarily qualities that we have, but rather goals that we must accomplish in our life time to be at our best.

With Aquarius in the Ascending or North Node, you would have a Leo South Node. That means that the qualities of Leo are naturally within you. In other words, self-expression comes naturally to you. It depends on the persons birth chart whether someone gets along or not. Hating a sign or not is your choice.
