Why is my computer going so slow?!?

I recently had a nasty virus and I completely reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition. The only thing is, is that everything, (I mean EVERYthing) is very slow. The curser moves alright, but programs are very slow, internet is slow, and typing this up is lagging too.

Is there anything that I could do to fix this?

Also, my monitor won't display the correct colors. I found the driver for it (e177FPb), but I don't know what to do with it! For some reaon, the Monitor's "Properties" button is disabled in the Display Settings and says I'm using a default monitor (which I'm not). =(

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I need to get this fixed ASAHP.

Thank you. -Chuckles

Update:

Sorry, my bad. I did format it. It asked me if it was OK for it to delete all the files off and I OK'ed it.

Update 2:

I have no files. I may do a virus scan. And I have 512MB of RAM.. The thing is, is that the computer worked fine pre-virus with only 512 MB. This is so stressful. =/

I have fixed about 10 PC's with this infection in the past couple of weeks.

Antispyware (http://toptenantispyware.com)/ will detect it and get rid of it and its totally free for download.

If you can't download it, get someone else to and burn it to CD or on to a pen drive and then run it on your PC.

just do not under any circumstances get your credit card out.

    also, Registry tools(

http://toptenantispyware.com/Clean_Up_Center.htm ) will get rid of any other traces of it. you can download it from the same place.

Reinstall doesn't wipe everything off. You need to format the computer.

First, insert Windows CD and restart your computer.

1 Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Main Menu.

2 At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.

3 Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.

4 If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.

5 Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.

6 Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.

7 Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.

8 After the Windows Setup program formats the partition, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to continue installing Windows.

What you need to do is get your drivers going strait. Go to the Nvidia website and download the latest Nvida driver. I mean go ATI if you have an ATI driver but you get the point. Go there and download the latest display driver and then install it. Then set your color back to the regular 32bit then set your display back to noremal. This will also help solve part of your speed problem. The next theing you need to do is clear any old progams that you have on there and distroy as much of your back groun dprocesses as you can.

it is a virus attack and do boot scan of your pc download AVAST from www.download.com or www.filehippo.com, update the virus data base of avast and then do scan and scedule it for a boot scan

give a restart to your pc and boot scan will start let it remove what is possible.

Then download glary utilities from download.com and update the database and do scanning it will remove malware and trojans as well.

Then use administrator log in to do the installation of graphics driver or monitor driver.

In case you are unable to install under user login then use administrator login to do the installations.

Open microsoft word...Press enter 3 times... Tab (twice)... Wait for exactly 4.5 seconds then spam F9. If this doesn't work you obviously didn't press F9 at exactly 4.5 seconds. Then when you get bored go to yahoo answers and find a serious answer. Or mental help for me...

    Hope this helps...

u didn't mention how much RAM you have...usually upgrading the RAM

can speed up your PC and the apps you use.

for your display monitor, try installing those drivers.

either you have a virus or your computer has so many files installed. I recommend sending it to a repair shop to get it fixed.
