In a down economy, isn't the correct fiscal response targeted & high spending?
McCain/Palin are speaking aggressively of cutting spending and balancing the budget. This is appropriate during strong economic times, but is inappropriate during times when the economy needs to be stimulated. Am I missing something? Why am I not hearing economists questioning the current McCain line?

Absolutely, it wasn't spending cuts that got us out of the great depression! I think the reason you don't gear anyone questioning the McCain line is that keeping up with his positions, to quote John McCain, is like trying to nail jello to a wall. That and the simple fact that no one is listening to him anymore.

yes, you're missing a LOT...like sanity! the best way to strengthen the economy is thru jobs, and letting people keep as much of their earnings as possible! huge spending requires huge taxes, which leaves people less money to spend on food, housing, transportation, heating, clothes, health care, savings...
