In the state of Ohio; can a 17 yr. old legally sign a lease for an apt.?

I'm a landlord and have never encountered this scenario before. This is the city of Cleveland, if that makes a difference? Thanks :)

No he cannot legally enter into a legal and binding contract until 18 years of age, this is the law in all 50 states not just OH. Under 18 is still considered a minor in the eyes of the law and minors cannot enter into contracts, he can't even get a bank account or a credit card so why should he be able to get an apartment. He would need to have a parent or guardian co-sign in order to qualify and you'd have to pull the co-signors credit. A 17 year old doesn't even have credit so right there would disqualify him to rent.

I would ask for a co-signer 18 yrs old or older then have the renter sign a new one after he/she turns 18 or when lease expires...
