Is Lucifer a Myth, Legend, or Belief?

For my Conceptual Storytelling class, I need to recreate a Myth,Legend, or Folktale into a present, credible story.

I was thinking about doing Lucifer; however, is it considered a Myth or Belief?

Argument: My friend is an Athiest, and he took Bible As/In Literature class. I'm guessing that would be a myth to him. Loch Ness is considered a legend yet a lot of people do not believe in it, even if there are some sorts of evidences. How about Lucifer?

Update:

And please, this is not a religious debate.

The son of Zeus and Eos was named Lucifer in the Greek pantheon. He was the God of the morning Star--Venus. He is truly a mythical character.

The name Lucifer in the Bibles are in Greek versions where they used the Greek name of Lucifer for an angel called the "Light Giver."

Many people believe in myths and legends; both myths and legends were once beliefs, and more often than not still are to many people. Those categories aren't truly separate. However, I wouldn't write about Lucifer; your teacher may be a Christian and may very likely dislike your inclusion of Biblical characters in your "myth."

    hm, quite a paradox?

In my opinion, Lucifer is both Legend and Belief. Some people (like myself) don't see "mythology" as being a mere fairytale. this is where the legend becomes a belief. how does one say Bigfoot is a myth when I know plenty of rednecks that would swear on their mama(after a good dose of Wild Turkey-of course)that Bigfoot is as real as they are. Who knows?

Lucifer was a figure in biblical history. He was an angel cast out of heaven by God. That's how he became the "devil." And yes, it is a belief.

As you already surmised, Lucifer can mean different things to different people.

Just write your story based on what you think, or choose from your three ideas, and make it credible to yourself, thus making it credible to the reader.

No. Satan rules Hell. The demons are other fallen angels.

    Sure - why not?

Most religions have stories that are found within their holy book (Bible, Koran, Torah). One man's myth is another man's faith.

It would be a belief because it is in religion.
