Looking for a Transformation book (vampire, alien, supernatural being, etc.)?
I'm looking for a book where the protagonist undergoes a transformation. A vampire book where the protagonist is 'turned' near the beginning (ideally not that smutty girl-power fluff), or something like Wen Spencer's Tinker where the protagonist is turned into an elf. I really like the immortality thing. I've also enjoyed books where the protagonist finds him/herself thrust into an alien culture (being transformed into an alien, or not) and has to deal.
I like fantasy and science fiction, though ideally nothing too dry in the latter category.
Hey thanks for the suggestion(s) but I'm kind of only looking for a book that involves an actual transformation, and love triangles--no matter how bizarre--aren't really my thing (not really looking for a romance--romance is fine, just not the main focus please)
I'm feeling a bit too old for young adult books these days. They're fun sometimes I guess, but I'm not in the mood.
I guess my biggest problem with giving The Host a try is that it sounds like the Animorphs which I read as a kid (about alien parasites who take over the mind and bodies of humans) and that it is written by this Stephenie Meyer who seems to be making way too much money off of what seems to be Harry Potter for girls.
swdarklighter - I've actually already read, or started reading and dropped (don't remember which, lol), City of Pearl, the first book in that series. (and excuse my poor phrasing, but I actually -dislike- love triangles) Thanks for your suggestion though!

Try the Wess'Har series by Karen Traviss, starting with City of Pearl. This book has all the elements you are looking for, and you have almost described them exactly.
It starts with a mission to find a lost human interstellar colony. The mission arrives to find that there are already three other sentient beings/races on the planet that the humans have also colonized, including an immortal protector. Throughout the series, there are aliens, transformations, and a sort of a "love triangle".
Although you don't really get to the transformation/immortality until the end of the first book, the following books in the series deal heavily with these issues and situations.
Give it a try - it sounds exactly like what you are looking for.

this is not very much of a transformation book but it involves a human thrown into an alien culture. it kind of also deals with an alien adapting to human culture. The Host-Stephenie Meyer
its a great book granted it has a slow beginning but you will love it in the end.
I don't know if you like young adult books or not but some that would be really good would be House of Night series and the Mortal Instruments Trilogy. The Trilogy involves all kinds of different fantasy creatures from werewolves to vampires, fairies and nephelim.

You might like The Host by Stephenie Meyer. It is about these aliens who are called souls and take over human bodies. The human race has almost become extinct and the main person is a woman called Melanie who was one of the last human survivors, accept she has been captured by the souls, and now has a soul inside her who controls her. When humans become a soul, they fade away and no longer survive, but with Melanie, she fights back against the soul inside her body and can talk to it. She then shows the soul through her memories the boy she loved and the humans who are her friends, and the soul sets off to find them with Melanie's help. It is a fantastic read and is interesting how Melanie and the soul communicate to each other through their thoughts. You really have to read it. You would love it!

um wicked lovely. love triangle? yes but more focus on the book, transformation into faerie being? check, which is part of the main focus of the book. enjoy? also the anita blakes have random transformations, ie; the protagonist onto this uberpowerful necromancer shapeshifter....thing its cool but you have to stick with the series. also twilight is not harry potter for girls. harry potter is a0 so much better, and b) enjoyed by both sexes which is what makes it so great, anyone can enjoy it. and after breaking dawn i doubt meyer is making that much money
