IF SOMEONE NORMAL, AVERAGE JOE, RAN FOR PRESIDENT, AND YOU LIKED HIS OR HER POINTS, WOULD YOU VOTE FOR THEM?
OVER THE PEOPLE THAT SAY THEY WANT CHANGE, BUT LETS BE REAL. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO YOU VOTE FOR, IF THEY HAVE BEEN IN WASHINGTON BEFORE, ITS THE SAME OLD SAME OLD. PICK ANYONE YOU WOULD RESPECT IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND LET ME KNOW. FOR ME, I COULD BELIEVE AVERAGE JOE WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD WORK FOR ME, BECAUSE THEY ARE ME, THEY KNOW WHAT WE NEED.
I love the responses. What I mean by average is not knowledge, but maybe someone who is smart, good business person, but lives in the normal 3.5 bedroon home with 2,3 kids, in anytown, usa.
I feel that if you were to surround yourself with good advisors, as every president need to, it could work and maybe help Middle America.

There are a lot of people who share my opinions, but I'd pray they'd never run for public office for other reasons!

I know what you mean. That person would somehow have to stand out from the rest of the millions of good, hard-working, intelligent people. He/she would need to have some sort of leadership experience, public service of sorts & a track record of their stances/proof of their accomplishments.

There's nothing shameful about being average but we need someone extraordinary as president. The job is enormously demanding and the next president will face severe challenges. The average Joe cannot handle that position, no matter how good his intentions.
Furthermore, I don't think we should paint all Washington politicians with the same brush. Yes, Washington politics is not what it should be -- not by a long shot. However, there are still substantial differences between the candidates in intelligence, character, and platforms.
As you probably have gathered from my avatar's nickname, I am voting for Obama.

What gets elected is the same old political hacks
Obama and Sarah Palin are both new to the process
and see how they treat both of these candidates?
Sure they differ in ideology? That goes with out saying
But anyone who is not excepted or is *different* gets slammed
by the American Press and worse the *whiners* who seem to be
everywhere..
These people would not allow someone different if their life depended
on it..and it does

Personally, I want someone smarter than me running things, not someone who struggles with complex issues or relationships. Why have anyone if we're not going to staff the position with quality? Speaking as an "average" American, I don't want average, I want the best.

No I wouldn't. I want someone smart. Not someone like Bush, we're having some real problems with our average Joe president.

Power changes EVERYONE. So that average joe may be just what you're looking for until he comes into office, and has people telling him what he should and shouldn't do.

I don't want an Average Joe for president, I want someone that is smarter than most and I agree with his/her views. That's who I want for president.

A fiscal conservative and social liberal will always have my vote.
Unfortunately, no candidate comes close to this as Bill Clinton.
