It is my best friends 21st Birthday and I want to take her to North Beach and eat at one of the Italian Restaurants. What is good one to go to?

Cafe Macaroni on Columbus at Jackson. Great food, casual fun service, small, unprentious and moderately priced.
More upscale Rose Pistola Columbus between Green and Union. Tables outside, jazz inside, great food and a good place to see and be seen.

Dan, First off, it should be, "My girlfriend and I..." Next, it's North Beach in San Francisco for the Italian spots, although there are good Italian places all over the Bay Area. (I'm very fond of Georgio's in Healdsburg, for instance!) Don't miss the Tosca Cafe for a hang out (On Columbus Ave.) and don't miss City Lights Books, the epicenter of the Beatniks. Just wander up and down Columbus...ask a local!

There are so many places...but my personal favorite is Mona Lisa's. I come from a Sicilian family and ate only home cooked Italian meals. Mona Lisa's is very close if not almost the same way my grandmother and mother cooked. Tasty southern dishes. They also have a wonderful dessert list. Its small, quaint and a perfect place to enjoy a nice meal with a friend or loved one. I have suggested Mona Lisa's to many friends and clients and they have come back with great reviews.

There are so many small places...I just recommend you walk around and check out menus. Go down Grant, Vallejo, Green and Union too, not just Columbus.
