What's the differnece between a 4x2 prerunner tacoma and a 4x4 tacoma?

I just want to know if there is a major difference or if there an important fact to pick one instead of the other..

The pre-runner is set up higher to give the appearance of 4x4- it is what was used to pre-run the trucks that weren't 4x4 to compare how they would do in 2WD mode. In the 2009 Pre-Runner and 4x4 there really aren't too many differences VSC is now standard as well as Auto LSD so VSC does what most people believe 4x4 does, keeps you from fishtailin on ice or in a skid...

since toy sends these all over the world, the 2WD's have all the bosses and mount points to do it. but the only practical way is to have a totalled donor. and even then, i'd consider putting your cab/bed on that. way easier. that will have all the sensors/harness/ and ECU that's needed. as well as the extra knock out floor panels, dash controls (retain the donor dash), not to mention the entire drive train. i'd simply keep an eye open for a cheaper pre 96 4x4 hilux (pre obd1 and earlier). with manual lockers. there are tons of those out there in various condition. most, no more than 1000-1500. which in the end will be cheaper to do. unless someone gives you an app donor.

well, 4x4 drives all four wheels when engaged, 4x2 prerunner is rear wheel drive only. Some of the prerunners have a electronic locking differential. If you are planning on driving in the mud/snow/sand get a 4x4. The prerunners are very tough, but i've seen one get stuck in pine straw.
