Using public bathroom of opposite sex - is it ever ok?

I am a man and have been using the restroom when a woman has walked in. This happened at concerts and a couple of times when a woman wanted to take her toddler son in the mens room versus the womens. This made me wonder how these same women would feel if I walked into the womens public bathroom when they were using it.

So my question is, how would you feel if you were using a public bathroom and someone of the opposite sex walked in. Is it ever OK, like when potty training a child?

No, it's not ok for the opposite sex to just walk in the opposite sex bathroom just to potty train their kid. If your a female and you have a boy that is too young to use the bathroom himself, take him to the lady's room, not the men's room. The only time it's ok to use the opposite sex bathroom is if on one is in there and you need to use the, that's if that bathroom of the same sex it occupied.

About 15 years ago my mom and I were at Macy's shopping, I had to go pee so bad I actually ran to the bathroom. Well, I went into one of the stalls and shut the stall door, I heard my name call out by my mom, she said, what are you doing in here, as she was laughing, I stated laughing so hard, I couldn't thing straight. So, when I got done peeing, I walked out of the stall, and saw this lady standing by one of the sink giving me a very dirty look as I was laughing. So quickly walked out as I was so embarrassed. The lady walked out of the bathroom and gave me another dirty look, I said, "Hey, excuse me there, get over it, and get over your self". She walked way.

When my mom walked out of the bathroom laughing, and so was I. Man, I laughed so hard my stomach was hurting...

I wouldn't mind, my bathrooms at home are for both sexes, and being an adult, I have know that both sexes have to eliminate and how it is done-no biggie. And I have taken my son and/or daughter into the mens bathroom before when potty-training and the womens has a line, I just knock and give polite notice of my intentions first to make sure that none of the men who may be using the facilities object. If they do, then we wait as long as we can before we go in anyway and get the job done. I don't think a child should have to suffer in wet or dirty pants because no woman would let us cut in line for an emergency and all the men were afraid to have a woman in the stall next to them.

As a woman, I am in a stall, so even if a man walked in, all he would see are my feet. Whereas if I walked into a men's room the chance of me seeing something I shouldn't is much higher, given the urinal situation. So I wouldn't really care if a dad brought in his potty training little girl, especially since I would guess the stalls in the women's room are cleaner than the men's room.

A grown adult shouldnt go into the opposite sex's restroom unless theres some reason like there disabled and need help or something.

Ive seen a Mom take a son into a womens restroom and that doesnt seem wrong but the other way around is kinda strange..

I have noticed that there are now "family" restrooms is most places now. Which is supposed to eliminate the need to take children and the disabled into the men's or women's rooms. So I would say that unless there is no "family room" it's not okay, otherwise, the memeber of the opposite sex sould make it clear they are entering the wrong restroom and respectfully not go in is someone has an objection.

in my opinion it is only ok if it is a single-room bathroom like a lot of places have. then if one is being used i think it's ok to use the opposite gender's if there is no one waiting.

in the case of taking a toddler, most parents take them in the bathroom that the parent would use, since people are less uncomfortable if a young toddler is in the wrong bathroom than if an adult is. i think this is the correct solution in a case like that.

there is no other time when i think people should do that.

It is only okay when the bathroom you are supposed to use is out of commission and you ask the opposite sex entering or exiting that bathroom if it is okay.

It's more acceptable for women to use the men's than the other way around because a woman using the men's would not be seen as a threat whereas a man might be seen as a masher.

Its actually illegal for a person of one sex to walk into the opposite sex bathroom while there is someone in it..../
