this might sound weird but, you can take a pair of old panty hose and put your garlic and onions in it and it will keep them for a long time. what you do is....drop a garlic bulb in the bottom then tie a knot off at the top of that one and then drop another bulb in and tie a knot in that one and so on.....so the knot between each bulb keeps them from touching! then you can hang them up in your pantry and just cut one off at the top of the knot below it when you wanna use it! hope i explained it ok for you! works great!!!!!

No, you should keep garlic in a dry place, not moist. Putting in the refrigerator will make them go bad faster. They're similar to onions in terms of storage, they do best in a dark, cold and dry environment. I use garlic frequently so I don't worry about this and just leave them in a open container on my counter. Occasionally after a few weeks, I may have to throw out a half bulb that's begun to sprout, but otherwise they keep for several weeks in this manner. When wondering about how to keep fruits, herbs and vegetables I always look to how their being stored at the grocery, there may be a few changes to make them last longer at home that wouldn't be practical in store (like keeping in dark), but overall they keep them in the states which they're meant to be stored.

It depends on how long you are going to keep them. If you keep them at room temperature for a couple of weeks, they will start to sprout (like potatoes). If you refrigerate them for a month or more, they will get mushy and might mold. The garlic will keep longer in the fridge, but if you use it fairly quickly, there's no harm leaving it out.

peel the garlic wipe them clean but dont wash, store them in glass jar in your refridgerator they will last a long time. Wash before use

I leave mine on the counter in a mesh wire basket with my limes, or any other veggies that I don't think need refridgerating (like a big butternut squash or something).

keep them in a teraccota pot for optimum freshness
it allows them to breathe but keeps them in the dark

edit for below, if they are still going bad despite being in a keeper, either they are damp, or your kitchen temperature fluctuates madly and there is condensation building

no u dont have to. they are just like onions. its best not to refrigarate. they keep very well and for a long time in a cool dry place

I have found, they mold because of condensation. I just leave them out on the counter.
