A digital converter box is designed to convert digital channels to an analog signal output for an analog TV. The problem arises when you live in an area that has some subset of over-the-air (OTA) broadcasters upgrading to digital while the remaining stations continue analog broadcasts. This can occur because the FCC has mandated that only the full-powered broadcasters must, by law, convert to digital. The smaller broadcasters are not covered by this law. Analog by-pass, therefore, allows your digital converter box to pass-thru these analog signals to your analog TV. Without analog bypass, a digital converter box will block the reception of the analog stations in your area.
You can purchase digital converter boxes at Radio Shack, KMart, WalMart, Best Buy, Circuit City or Sears.
Look for a converter box with a sensitive tuner to allow you to receive even the weakest of signals. The Zenith DTT901 (Circuit City) is a good choice for this feature. Also, a digital converter with an Electronic Programing Guide and event timer that allows you to program it to automatically turn-on/turn-off and change the channel during selected programs is a nice feature if you wish to use a VCR or DVD recorder. The DTV PAL (Sears) is a good converter for this feature. Both have analog pass-thru.

If you can find one, its a risk because you have to mail the coupon to them. They are going to swipe it like a credit card and $40 will be charge to the govt. If intercepted in the mail anybody can use your coupon. So, just wait for stocks, or ask local Walmart, they have deliveries atleast once a week. Be there on the day their stocks arrive. And besides, if you will buy it online, you have to pay for shipment, may cost you $20.
