If you are trying to get your Operating System to run in Japanese, sorry you cant do that in XP (but you can in Windows Vista Ultimate). You can install a Japanese IME and read/write Japanese characters though. Good Luck

For a Windows XP, if it is Japanese you only need to change the internal language settings....

I use a Japanese version/bi-lingual, there are keys to switch back and forth from hiragana, katagana & kanji or English... these should be part of your key board...??? I didn't need to buy any extract products in order to read use Japanese on my PC, if you want to use Chinese characters, Korean, etc ... you might need extract products or just download a language translator. Good Luck! As for CD's you should have one include with your PC package, if you don't contact your retailer.

If you have Microsoft office you can go to the Microsoft website and download the Japanese IME for XP.

You can only use this in office, but it's better than nothing. Good luck.
