Wasn't Ret. Gen. Powell a hero a few years ago?
During the gulf war he was considered a war hero and I remember people talking about how he should get a 5th star. After Clinton was elected and he retired he was considered a hero for standing up for his values over having gays in the military.
But when he endorses Obama he is now called a supporter of terrorist a traitor to his country (here on Yahoo answers). When he is merely practicing his freedom that he fought for most of his life.

You have idiots everywhere here. On both sides, across party lines, and even in third parties.
That does not represent the general conservative view of Powell, which is still that he is a hero, and a great American. No political choice will change that in the minds of the vast majority of conservatives.

He's a Decorated Vietnam War veteran. His endorsement of Barack Hussein Obama is more complicated than that. Technically, Obama is accused of being a traitor and a terrorist. In this nation hes innocent until proven guilty.
Due process eliminates lynch mobs, kangaroo courts and unwise or wise acts of swift justice. Let's hope General powell doesn't regret his choice like his backing of George Bush's Operation Iraqi Freedom.

For starters, Powell did not leave his office in clinton administration. He left while Bush was in office and served under Bush. Colin Powell, who was responsible for gathering evidence for the war in Iraq, did so and presented it to the UN.
His endorsement is his choice, but he should not use false analogy to do so. That McCain calls Obama a Muslim is a lei, McCain NEVER did this and even correct this.
colin Powell forgets his hand in this war which was big and his "electrifying" statement on Obama goes to show what his endorsement is based on.
I admire his prior contributions and I agree with and honor what he did in his career before, but he has proved himself to be a hypocrite when he holds "electrifying" results above his country's well being.

They only have respect for those that support he party line. Once you stop going along their true feeling come out and lose the window dressing appeal. Just ask J.C. Watts (R-OK.) was trying to become the third highest ranking member in the republican party but ran up against it
and has since retired and while he is still a republican, he is not as rabid
as he once was. I think he learned that they will let you carry the water
but not lead.

They consider McCain a hero because he served for his country. Powell is a hero.

Anybody calling Powell a traitor, etc, must have very short memories. Powell was betrayed by Bush and Cheney when they lead him to believe the WMD lie and he took the bait, hook, line and sinker and made a fool of himself in front of the U.N. This is why he resigned his post. The ignorance of people astounds me.

Powell is still a hero. He just has bad judgement and he is supporting Senator Obama because he is a racist. It's all about color with General Powell.

Well yes - he was a hero;
but now he is a zero.
But he will probably end up on the cabinet. Then we will have 2 zeros ~ ya see ?

It makes me sad. He said that palin is not ready, but he is endorsing Obama? that makes no sense. He also said that race wasn't the dominate factor in this. That tells me that race was still a factor. I thought better of him and than that.
