Lakers fans: Lamar Odom at the point? ?

Phil Jackson talked about Lamar possibly playing the point guard position. What's your take on this?

Can you say 'Disastor'? Look at the stupid choices odom made last year playing forward, why on earth would you make someone as unsure about his abilities as he is your point? If the Lakers go through with it, theyre not getting past the 2nd round

You know that the other team can just tell their small forward to defend him right? If the lineup is like this: Odom, Fisher, Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, then the opposing team will do this match up or something like it.

Pistons: Defensive match up: Prince, Billups, Rip, Amir Johnson, Sheed

Offensive match up: Billups, Rip, Prince, Amir Johnson, Sheed

Why would you have Odom guard Billups? Odom would be too slow, even for Billups. Why have Fisher guard Rip? Rip has a lot of speed for a 6-7 dude.

The match up problems would be pretty much useless.

Phil tried this a couple of games during the preseason and it hasn't worked out well.

He was very critical of Odom's play at the point.

This idea is almost a month old, before the preseason even began.

But I agree with one of the answerers that Odom maybe TOO tall (lanky, unorthodox) and slow to play the point.

too many mismatches. that would bump fisher and kobe to the 2 guard and sf respectively where they are both undersized. lamar odom doesn't look like he can handle the point from what i'm seeing the the preseason. i say just bring him in for 6th man as sf to keep the second unit strong

I would like to see Odom, and Diaw both play Point, but I don't think it'll happen. Derek Fisher is too short to play the 2 so he'll probably be coming off the bench if this were to happen..

Def create mismatch at PG and SG. But it's possible that LO wiill create quite a headache for the opposing teams on offense and defense with his versitile long arms and speed. than u have Kobe switching to SF which will create mismatches for the other team as well.

No way. On offense, he would have to develop more quickness, a better outside shot, and improve his ball-handling exponentially to run the point. On defense, can you picture him trying to cover Chris Paul, AI, Steve Nash, or any of the other quick PGs in the league? He'd be skewered. Keep him on the frontline or trade him.

Would definitely make them more versatile... fish @ 2guard, and kobe at SF...and then they just switch back on defense.. might be a lil confusing for them for the first few games, but they'll get the hang of it.. Only real negative is that they wont have the big 3 up front for offensive rebounds, so Gasol and Bynum will just have to step it up a bit. All in all, I think a good move. Anyways, back when Odom was with the Clippers, he played a lil bit of PG if memory serves me right.

It would make them more versitile at that position but i dont think it would happen because he would not be a point guard type of player and he may play small forward instead if not then shooting guard and have kobe play point guard

  • i don't like it, lamar as the point forward has been working well, with him as 1, fisher will easily be mismatched at the 2, kobe, as good as he is, will be banged up with bigger defenders on him. and kobe is the best 2, why put him at 3?
