First off, disregard Neil's answer, it's of no use to anyone.

The medication for Bi-Polar, while having mild side effects, will *NOT* cause you major harm, they certainly aren't going to make you 'crazy' - I have no idea where this notion started but it's usually found in people who don't understand the drugs.

The medication will stabilise your mood, so you will have reduced phases of mania and depression, in short, you'll feel alot better.

If you stop the medication, you're mood will most likely destabilise, in some cases your phases will be amplified as your body has grown used to the medication.

Alot of people on medication get better, and the nthink "I don't need it anymore" *WRONG* They're feeling better because of the medication, and stopping it is not a good idea.

Worst that can happen? You become horribly depressed and hurt/kill yourself, or manic and become reckless.

If you're having an issue with the medication, speak to your doctor, they can advise you what to do, but don't just stop it.

ps: Seriously Neil, WTF is wrong with you?

Well you've probably acted like an idiot at some point, and that's how come they've got you on that stuff now. But psychiatry ain't no hard science. Who knows what's wrong with you, really. Those fools don't know how to do anything but hand out pills. Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe you'll go cosmic bananas. Maybe that'll happen even if you stay on those pills anyway.

On the whole I think you should just try to act normal and not bother people. If you can't manage that you're screwed no matter what.

I have a friend and she is 41. she was finally diagnosed with bipolar. I think it was about 10 or 15 years ago. but she was in a mental hospital for a short time for trying to kill herself. (when she wasn't on medication) so PLEASE take your medicine . her life is so much better now that she finally found some medication that works for her.

I wish you all the luck in the world !!! :)

You could have severe depression or go into mania. Take your medication as prescribed.

Either, suicidal depression OR extremely reckless and dangerous behavior.

You could snap and harm yourself.

Please stay on your meds. One of my fears is my loved one not tkaing his medcation....
